When upgrading you will need to match or trade in your DIMM's. Pay attention to the BIOS memory mode selected!!!!  Change your BIOS memory mode prior to upgrading the number of DIMMs.

    E5502 thru E5506 - max bus speed of 800 Mhz.
       All memory tpes will run at 800 Mhz
    E5520 thru E5540 - max bus speed of 1066 Mhz.
       All memory tpes will run at 1066 Mhz
    X5550 thru X5570 - max bus speed of 1333 Mhz.
       PC3-8500 memory will run at 1066 Mhz
       PC3-10600 memory will run at 1333 Mhz

6.  The Perc 6/i or SAS 6ir internal raid controller can support SAS or SATA.   When using a SATA software raid array, initialization times are 2-4 times longer than SAS.  Performance is slower, SATA drives cannot be accessed as quickly as SAS drives.  You pay for what you get.  If you want performance buy SAS.  If you want the larger capacity use SATA and expect slower access and performance.  SATA drives require a interposer to work correctly with SAS drives.  Do not mix and match SAS and SATA without an interposer installed on SATA drives.
